FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City Island – Tales Of The Clam Diggers A book by Alice Payne is republished after 35 years.

City Island, NY 2004 – Tales Of The Clam Diggers, written by Alice Payne, has been reprinted.

City Island – Tales Of The Clam Diggers brings alive three centuries of history about this colorful and little known island within New York City – City Island. Dubbed, the Bronx's own "Cape Cod," Mrs. Payne captivates the reader with historical facts cleverly woven with humorous island anecdotes and lore about this bustling island and its citizens.

First published in 1969, Tales of the Clam Diggers sold out immediately. The second printing includes all the original text with an updated preface and biography.
A native New Yorker, Alice Payne, now 89 years of age, came to City Island in 1946 and promptly became its greatest booster. While working at the City Island Branch of the New York Public Library, Mrs. Payne realized it was difficult to fill the many requests for information about and the history of City Island. It was then she and her husband, James, began an eight-year search for facts and fiction about the island. This book is a result of that effort.

A reception and book signing will be held on Sunday, March 21st, 2004 from 2pm to 4pm at The City Island Nautical Museum, 190 Fordham Street Street, City Island, NY 10464
